Fancy yarn for sweater design should be selected around the final fabric effect, not only the yarn name. A buyer may need a fuzzy surface, plush touch, hollow structure, metallic shine, space dyed color repeat or clean cotton stitch definition. Each route needs different sample information.
Start from the Fabric Effect
- Soft and warm: compare brushed yarn, chenille yarn and selected blends.
- Structured and lightweight: compare tape yarn and tube yarn.
- Shiny or decorative: compare metallic yarn and Lurex yarn routes.
- Multicolor: compare space dyed yarn and spray dyed yarn directions.
- Clean cotton look: compare mercerized cotton yarn routes.
What a Designer or Buyer Should Send
Send garment photos, fabric swatches, target gauge, yarn count, material direction, color references and words that describe the target hand feel. If the yarn is being developed from an existing sample, physical yarn or swatch is more useful than a photo alone.
Move from Design Idea to Sample
Use the yarn specification checklist to prepare count, composition, color, gauge and hand feel details. If color is not fixed, start with stock yarn color cards. Then send a sample request for review.
